Learning through games: it works

Learning games overview

Games are a great way of achieving learning outcomes: they're participative, convey narratives and reach audiences that other methods can't.

Gaming is a proven way of getting real engagement: after conducting a three year study, Brunel University academics concluded that 'the complexity and structure of most games means that teenage gamers are actually learning vital skills'.

We've developed successful games for clients including the ODPM, BBC, the Wildlife Trusts and Kikass.

How it works

We create a game which either directly or indirectly carries learning outcomes:

  • the challenge in the game might be directly the learning outcome (e.g. put the animals in the right habitat)
  • or it might be more tangential (e.g. the game raises questions and gets you to consider information, acting as a catalyst for learning).

Either way, we'll custom develop the right game for your audience and your learning outcomes.

The details

  • Most of our games are built in Flash.
  • Games can be delivered on the internet or on CD-ROM.
  • We can provide supplementary materials, e.g. teachers' packs, lesson plans, parents' information, offline resources.
