Demgames overview

Demgames is a free resource developed by Delib for the ODPM's Local e-Democracy National Project

A need was identified for a strong, engaging citizenship education tool because:

• citizenship is a key curriculum topic;
• it's difficult to engage young people with citizenship issues;
• it's increasingly important and desirable to educate young people about democracy.

 

We were asked to bring our engagement methodology and web design skills to help meet this need. The result is Demgames, our award-winning collection of fun and challenging online games which make it easy for young people to engage with and learn about citizenship and democracy.

How it works

Demgames was developed as part of the Local e-Democracy National Project, funded by the ODPM and commissioned by North Lincs Net. One in four councils already uses Demgames, both online and through CDs. The project comprises three games:

• Councillor Quest II - experience a day in the life of a local councillor
• Captain Campaign - take charge of a campaign and lead your team to victory
• Money Manager - balance the budget... on your phone!

The games are supported with a teachers' resource pack.
