Washington day 2: security, burgers and Open Gov beers
So following Ben’s more considered analysis of the US participation scene from yesterday, I’m gonna give you a much thinner (but equally exciting) run down of our adventures in DC today:
- 7 ro 9: fight with the hotel WIFI. WIFI wins.
- 9 to 11: meeting with Ed, Liz and Steve @ the Department of Homeland Security. Really great to finally meet the DHS guys – and all round pats on backs for NAPA, Delib and the DHS team for a great Quadrennial Review Dialogue project.
- 12 to 2: trip to Dan and Steve (from NAPA’s) favorite downtown lunch joint – 5 Guys Burgers – which is incidentally Obama’s favorite burger joint – of course!
- 2 to 4: wrap-up meeting with the NAPA team – led by Frank Reeder – chatting over reporting formats for finishing up the DHS project.
- 4 to 6: meet up with Patrick from the British Embassy. N.B. the US British Embassy is distinctly ugly (from an architecture perspective)
- 6 to late: our mini-Open Gov meet up in the Birch and Barley. Really good crowd turn out – inc a really great encounter with Dustin CIO, Finance Director, Judge and all round star of City of Manor Texas (population 5000). Check out their Open Innovation Platform @ ManorLabs.org
- late: blog n’bed
OpenGov beers with Ben, Chris, Danielle and Dan
