Here come the tube-steppers

01-05-2008 - ChrisQ | Democracy and government, Opinion research, Projects and client work

Today we launched our final Opinion Tracker analysis for the Mayoral elections.  The results are pretty interesting, with what looks like a final surge of buzz and positive sentiment for Boris.

Check out our latest election opinion research results here

Plus you should also check out a piece I’ve written for the Prospect Magazine blog about the “Tube-stepping” trend we’ve identified through our Opinion Tracking.  If you’re not already acquainted with the tube-stepping, it’s kinda like a cross between door-stepping and happy-slapping, and is part of the armory of the modern political activist.

Check out the Prospect magazine article on tube-stepping here.

  1. there was some work tying online buzz to outcomes in the US primaries. yahoo were pushing it from memory - techpresident would have it.

it’s obviously not an exact science but there’s also definitely something in it if you look more at trends that exact comparisons I think.

another good US tool is one which creates clouds of terms in blog posts - the one I’ve seen parses ‘leftleaning’ and ‘roght-leaning’ blogs, which would break up here of course because where would you put the libdems.

    found an example I posted

  2. Cool - thanks for this Paul. We found the same Yahoo thing + blogged about it on our Citizen Space blog a while back

We’re planning to launch a new permanent Opinion Tracker monitoring the 3 main parties soon, so this should provide better ongoing data to show any correlations that surface . . .
