‘Extra bank holiday’ campaign picked up as national ad

10-01-2008 - Ben | Delib news and events

I was more than a little surprised when I saw this on one of the billboards opposite our Bristol office this morning:

Thomas Cook billboard: 'vote for a free day. Join us in our campaign for an extra bank holiday'*

‘Extra bank holiday’? ‘Vote for a free day’? That’s our campaign! You may remember our whole ‘Bristol Day’ campaign from last year but if you need a refresher or don’t have a clue what I’m on about, have a look at http://www.delib.co.uk/dblog/happy-bristol-day and http://www.pledgebank.com/Bristolday.

I’m not sure Thomas Cook is quite who we were intending to influence but, hey, it’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp-suited advertising executive. Apparently, they’ve got a Facebook group, are encouraging people to sign up to a petition and all sorts. I wonder where this’ll go next…

* Apologies for the barbershop-mirror-esque properties of this photo. I think they decided to do a billboard of a billboard because they knew that they were re-framing someone else’s idea.
