Last summer, we, in partnership with NAPA, worked on a series of three pioneering National Dialogues for the US Department of Homeland Security. Excitingly, this project has now been nominated for a Citizen Service Award.
The awards, which are hosted by the U.S. General Services Administration, recognise innovative citizen outreach efforts by government offices. The Quadrennial Homeland Security Review was an initiative by DHS to… read more
15 Ways PCTs Can Improve Consultation On Difficult Issues
Amongst the different public sector organisations, PCTs are very often responsible for decisions that are affect huge numbers of people and cover issues that people feel strongly passionate about.
These issues and decisions are often difficult. This makes it all the more important to consult on them, but at the same time all the more daunting a prospect.
We've been running online consultations since 2004, frequently around difficult or contentious issues. Particularly… read more
My favourite thing on iPlayer? That advert for a BBC Trust online consultation…
Further to my post last week about delivering the BBC Trust's online consultation system, here's a pleasing example of it in action: the Trust are currently running a consultation on the BBC's on-demand services and have been promoting it through iPlayer.

Q: How do you get young people talking to MP’s?
A: A Robot. Simple. Not my first thought either, and that's why it's great. Here's a smart way from V-The National Young Volunteers Service to do just that. It's a website where young people can take control of a robotic arm that is in the Houses of Parliament. The robot arm is equipped with a marker pen and a stack of paper and whatever you type is written out… read more

Budget Simulator taking over the world (sort of)
We always knew our Budget Simulator had the potential to be customised so it could be used successfully by organisations other then UK Councils. In the last month or so we have had resounding confirmation of this fact with both a UK Police Authority and a New Zealand Council making use of our online tool. Both South Wales Police Authority and Wellington Council NZ are currently using the simulator.

HMRC Charter Consultation Launched
We've been working on a really interesting project here at Delib for the last few months with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.
In the 2008 Budget, the Government reaffirmed its belief that creating a charter for HMRC could play an important role in ensuring that the tax system is understandable and accessible to all taxpayers.
As a result, after a first round of consultation last summer, the good people at HMRC have… read more
Delib powers American ‘unique experiment in 21st century democracy’
We're just in the process of wrapping up the exciting online dialogue project that we've been working on with the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) in the USA, http://www.thenationaldialogue.org/healthit.
This has been a great project for many reasons, not least the incredible professionalism and ability of our stateside clients, but I particularly liked the way they described the project:

The Care and Support debate launches vote phase
Yesterday we launched the "vote phase" of the Department of Health's Care and Support debate - aimed at getting the general public to have their say on the issue by voting on various key issues.
We're excited about this new phase as it provides a really simple way for people to take part in the online debate, and also provides a way for users to see what other people… read more
Welcome back to Budget Simulator!
This is just a quick post to welcome back some Councils who have renewed their Budget Simulator licenses in the last few weeks.
A tip of the hat to Oldham, Maidstone, Slough, and Suffolk Coastal, who have once again recognised the importance of online outreach and engagement on budgetary issues. Not only does the Budget Simulator use an engaging format for making budget allocation more accessible, but it educates… read more
