Buzz, sales and votes.

Posted by ChrisQ on May 14 2008 | Opinion research, Social media, web 2.0 and other buzzwords

I’ve finally managed to dig out this v.interesting blog post on a recent piece of research from New York University’s Stern Business School that correlates online “chatter” to higher physical album sales.

Posted by ChrisQ on Apr 18 2008 | Opinion research, Projects and client work, Social media, web 2.0 and other buzzwords

We’ve launched a nice new shiny product called Opinion Tracker. Opinion Tracker does what it says on the tin i.e. it monitors what people are thinking and saying around the net.

Maidstone Budget Simulator wraps up

Posted by Ben on Dec 18 2007 | Engagement, Opinion research

Maidstone have just closed their budget consultation for this year, including their Budget Simulator which, in the month it was live, collected over 770 responses.

They incentivised use of the Simulator by entering participants into a prize draw for a £250 shopping voucher and did a good job of promoting the Simulator through various council and associated websites.

Congratulations, Maidstone, on another successful implementation!… read more

Posted by Ben on Nov 27 2007 | Democracy and government, Opinion research, Social media, web 2.0 and other buzzwords

Quick story I didn’t want to let pass: Facebook is linking up with ABC News in a partnership that will allow users to tap into the network’s political coverage.

Three reasons I found this particularly interesting:

  1. The enlightened thinking from David Westin, president of ABC News: “There are debates going on at all times within Facebook. This allows us to participate in those debates, both by providing information and by

Face-ocracy

Posted by ChrisQ on Nov 16 2007 | Debate, Good examples, Opinion research, Participation, Social media, web 2.0 and other buzzwords

There’s obviously been a lot of hype about Facebook recently, with brands hailing it as the future of advertising and geeks hailing it as the future of the world.  To jump on the bandwagon, I’d like to hail it as the future of democracy.

Well, maybe not the whole future of democracy, however it does really (yes really) work as an e-democracy tool, and has seen proper democratic outcomes over the… read more
