Bristol City Council’s New Website

Posted by Gez Smith on Mar 09 2010 | Conversations, Debate, Engagement, Ideas-sharing, Social media, web 2.0 and other buzzwords

I'm just back from this event, getting together the 'great and good' of the Bristol digital media community to discuss what the council should do with its new website. The backstory is that the council has seen that its current site doesn't fit what is needed either internally or externally, and so they're currently in procurement for a new CMS. After that, they're up for suggestions from the digital… read more

Amongst the different public sector organisations, PCTs are very often responsible for decisions that are affect huge numbers of people and cover issues that people feel strongly passionate about. Posted by AdamC on Mar 01 2010 | Advice, Consultation, Delib news and events, Engagement, Good examples

The internet can seem a risky place to engage with people on Policing matters but already this year we're seeing Authorities using it to great effect - joining the conversation, increasing the quality of discussion and engaging with more people. One pertinent topic right now is the budget with many opinions on how people think their Authority should spend their funds. Already this year, we've worked with 3 Police Authorities to… read more

Posted by Gez Smith on Feb 10 2010 | Advice, Bad examples, Democracy and government, Engagement, Social media, web 2.0 and other buzzwords

Here at Delib, we're the kind of people that like to learn from each other and from what the other companies in our group do. We had a really interesting talk a few weeks ago on social media vs 'search engine optimisation' (SEO), from Tim in our sister viral marketing agency Rubber Republic

Consultation Institute Wrong On e-Participation

Posted by Gez Smith on Feb 02 2010 | Bad examples, Consultation, Democracy and government, Engagement, Participation

We like the Consultation Institute. Their courses are interesting and they've come from nothing to national prominence in just a few years, all impressive stuff. But occasionally, when it comes to online consultation, they seem to miss a few tricks. Their newsletter this week is interesting, reflecting as it does on media stories that the government may be putting its new 'Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act' on hold. My favourite thing on iPlayer? That advert for a BBC Trust online consultation…

Posted by Ben on Feb 01 2010 | Consultation, Engagement, Good examples, Projects and client work

Further to my post last week about delivering the BBC Trust's online consultation system, here's a pleasing example of it in action: the Trust are currently running a consultation on the BBC's on-demand services and have been promoting it through iPlayer.

Politics And Twitter

Posted by Gez Smith on Jan 27 2010 | Conversations, Debate, Democracy and government, Engagement, Good examples, Social media, web 2.0 and other buzzwords

Interesting report out from Tweetminster the other day about the amount of politicians and political parties using Twitter at the moment, which hopefully adds a bit of context to the whole 'This will be an internet' election meme around at the moment. More interesting in many ways though is the response to it from the political chattering types, and Tweetminster's response to that. Lots of useful stuff… read more

Practical learnings from online patient opinion trials

Posted by ChrisQ on Jan 22 2010 | Delib news and events, Engagement, Ideas-sharing, Participation

I'm now out of hospital (thankfully); however, the patient crowd-sourcing website I set up whilst in hospital – as a frustrated patient – is still up and running. helpusimprovekings.org has had mixed success since its launch and we've learnt a huge amount over the time we've been running it so we thought we'd share these learnings. From a practical perspective, the key learnings have been:

15 ways to maximise participation for your budget consultation

Posted by AdamC on Jan 12 2010 | Advice, Consultation, Conversations, Democracy and government, Engagement, Good examples

Moving to an online-based budget consultation is a great first step in increasing engagement - and given the potential to connect via the internet, I thought it would be a good idea to put together a document containing tips on how to boost response levels for an online budget consultation. After four years of working with Councils on budget consultation, we've seen a lot of strategies for maximising the… read more
